Global Media Lead

Fixed term contract until April 2020

£38,424 to £44,664 per annum / Full-Time

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced press/communications officer to step into a global media coordination role, generating and facilitating media coverage of a major Greenpeace campaign in 2019-20.

We’re looking for a skilled, media-savvy operator who can hit the ground running and get some high-impact media coverage, while working with colleagues in offices around the world to coordinate and deliver press work internationally.

Greenpeace’s Ocean Sanctuaries campaign will see an ambitious 12-month expedition from the Arctic to the Antarctic, conducting groundbreaking scientific research and highlighting the many threats to the ocean along the way, from climate change to plastic pollution and industrial fishing. It will also see political activities in countries around the world and at the UN, alongside negotiations towards a historic UN Ocean Treaty. One week you might be working with a celebrity who’s on board the ship, the next week you might be putting together a media release plan for a major scientific report.

The Global Media Lead will work with national and international media outlets to arrange periods on board the ship during the expedition and will work with press & communications colleagues in Greenpeace offices globally who are delivering portions of the expedition, to ensure their plans maximise media opportunities, both domestically and globally.

Requirements

You’ll be working for Greenpeace UK but as part of a global Communications & Engagement team for the Ocean Sanctuaries campaign, based largely in London, and in collaboration with press and communications colleagues in Greenpeace offices all around the world. The location for this position is therefore flexible, subject to agreement, although a significant overlap of working hours with a Europe-Middle East-Africa time zone is essential.
