Group Reporter, SMART Highways and Transport Network

Role and key responsibilities:

To assist the Editor in the production of four magazines per year, including:

  • Liaising with contributors and advertisers
  • Writing accurate news stories and insightful features and chasing up copy
  • Subbing articles
  • Working with the sales team
  • Delivering daily industry news for the website and weekly email newsletter
  • Working on social media output
  • Assisting with the production of podcasts and videos
  • Working with the marketing team to help with the promotion of the magazine and its associated events
  • Attending and reporting on industry events

To assist the Transport Network team with the production of three journals and one yearbook per year as part of the division’s contract publishing agreement with the Institute of Asphalt Technology (IAT) including:

  • Working with head of IAT Publications Committee and/or Managing Editor as well as IAT President where necessary to come up with and deliver annual strategy and direction for IAT’s official journal-Asphalt Professional and the IAT Yearbook. 
  • Liaising with contributors and advertisers
  • Writing and subbing features articles 
  • Working with IAT Technical committee to source technical papers and the editing off
  • Chasing copy and liaising with magazine designer in line with the production schedule
  • Working with the sales team and attending some events including IAT annual conference

Requires:

  • Excellent journalistic skills
  • Ideally, but not specifically, some knowledge of the highways and transport sector
  • Knowledge of publishing and broadcasting software including Adobe Audition, Indesign, Photoshop, Premier Pro to help produce and edit articles, podcasts and videos
  • An enthusiastic nature and excellent networking skills
  • Ability to travel internationally when necessary
