The Herald is recruiting a head of content, audience, and engagement to drive its digital output on a day-to-day basis.

This is a role suited to a hard-working, driven self-starter capable of managing a tight-knit team working in a busy multi-media environment on a national daily title.

A natural leader with demonstrable experience managing a team of journalists, the successful applicant will also help shape and deliver the Herald’s digital strategy, as well as driving audience growth and engagement across the Herald website and social media platforms.

Working with our digital editor and senior management, the successful applicant will able to direct our team of talented reporters, ensuring live and breaking news is covered using digital platforms to their full potential. 

Candidates will have extensive knowledge of analytics tools – including Chartbeat and its full toolset - allied to the ability to identify content trends and use them to create effective content and social media strategies across key verticals including politics, business, news and sport. 

Applicants will have broad and thorough knowledge of social media platforms, and an ability to use this experience to develop effective section-specific strategies to maximise brand exposure and traffic growth.  

The successful candidate will work with section editors and journalists to set up and use applications such as Crowdtangle, Twitter search, Tweetdeck and Google alerts, to their full potential, as well as developing innovative ways to tell stories, optimising existing content and enriching the Herald’s premium offering.

Experience using an online content management system is vital, as is a sound understanding of Scots media law.
