Head of news

Hitchin, Herts (30 mins Kings Cross)

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and career-minded journalist to take over the role of Head of News on CLAD, the global magazine and website for architects, designers, investors and developers.

Leisure Media is an independent publisher and our work opens doors for us across the world of architecture and design, so this role comes with a great deal of autonomy and responsibility and the freedom to take a lead in setting the editorial agenda for our news coverage, in partnership with colleagues and the top team of the business.

CLAD has established a formidable reputation for breaking global news and you would continue this work by maintaining close connections with key contacts across the sector.

As a global market leader with a strong journalistic reputation, the company is committed to producing news of the highest calibre.

We don’t just curate other people’s content, we source our own, by conducting regular interviews with the world’s leading architects and designers, ensuring our work is unique and valuable.

You will need to be enthusiastic about networking and seeking news and interviews and representing the company at global architectural events and conferences.

Because CLAD is written for architects and designers, the work is very visual, meaning you need to be a great photo researcher, in addition to your work with words.

In addition to being responsible for CLAD’s news output, you’ll also be in charge of scripting and newscasting CLAD’s regular news videos in our in-house video studio to accompany your breaking news stories.

This means, the role would suit a journalist with a multi-media background, who is also comfortable in front of the camera, although training is also offered for those with less experience in this area.

The CLAD portfolio includes CLADmag, CLADbook, CLADglobal.com CLADvideo and the regular CLAD ezine. We also plan to launch a weekly digital news magazine and you would be responsible for leading this project.

A strong understanding of how to harness social media for readership and distribution is also desirable and you will be responsible for live tweeting and video reporting from conferences, press visits and events.

There will also be opportunities to write some feature and profile interview content.

You’ll be working as part of a team of five people within the wider business who focus on the CLAD portfolio of products. This includes an editor, managing editor, book editor and publisher. We also work closely with colleagues on other Leisure Media magazine and web titles, sharing ideas and offering mutual support.

We’re committed to making Leisure Media a great place to work, offering bonus holiday, subsidised gym membership and a friendly, open and positive workplace based on trust and respect.

As a publisher in the wellness market, we’re also actively committed to walking the walk when it comes to good work:life balance and the importance of doing meaningful work in a positive team-working atmosphere.

If you’re a great news writer with a passion for architecture and design and it sounds as though the role and the company would fit you well, we’d love to hear from you.
