The Drum is looking for a talented and driven journalist to join our global editorial team as maternity cover. A skilled and versatile writer full of ideas, they will be expected to consistently seek out and produce impactful news and features about the advertising and marketing industries for

Newsroom experience or a track-record of producing crisp and compelling copy that shines online is essential, as is the ability to cultivate a network of valued contacts. Experience of reporting on the advertising and/or marketing industries would be highly desirable.

Key responsibilities

  • Write impactful news, features and other editorial content for on a daily basis
  • Conduct interviews and vox pops with industry figures
  • Cultivate a network of contacts spanning chief marketing officers to ad agency leaders
  • Regularly generate ideas for The Drum's key sections including Modern Marketing
  • Work on content for our monthly 'deep dive' editorial themes
  • Ensure The Drum's values and tone of voice are reflected in coverage produced


  • Experience of writing for a media title or producing high-quality content online
  • Journalistic training, including understanding of media law
  • Demonstrable track record of producing clear and accurate copy to deadline
  • Working knowledge of the advertising and marketing industries
  • Understanding of SEO and how best to structure stories online


  • A skilful writer with a flair for grabbing and holding readers' attention online
  • Confident and capable of producing tight, accurate and compelling copy at speed
  • A good communicator, at ease when dealing with colleagues and contacts
  • A quick learner curious and eager to build industry knowledge
