We are looking for an L&D business partner who has previously worked as a journalist, or a media consultant, but who has also worked within the education sector teaching journalism.

Reporting to the head of group talent and development, working closely with the group legal department and managing editors across the group, your primary role will be working with the legal department to provide compliance training, the role exists to lead the creation and delivery of legal training across our entire editorial function.

For this role you will be:

  • Working within the "Your Development" team to develop training programmes from induction through to legal update training
  • Work closely with group legal to identify a consistent editorial legal training pathway whilst also responding to local development needs through local editors
  • Partner with regional managing editors who will support the roll out of the consistent pathway
  • Work with group specialist areas to commission other compliance training and ensure Reach plc meets the mandatory training requirements
  • Work with the key stakeholders to drive completion through reporting and communication
  • You will ensure our journalists have the legal knowledge and are compliant with our legal standards at Reach and our external compliance requirements
  • You will also be the primary L&D point of contact for all group compliance requirements, facilitating and providing specialist L&D support to ensure all compliance requirements are met across the group
  • Create the legal training pathway for new starters as part of their induction building on the current IPSO training offering
  • Lead the creation of legal training programmes which provide on-going development and refresher training for journalists
  • Ensure legal training is relevant to local geographical legal differences
  • Develop and deliver ad-hoc legal training based on topical events such as general elections
  • Work with the HR systems and reporting team to deliver accurate and consistent reporting around all compliance requirements
  • Proactively look for training opportunities to prevent breaches occurring
  • Work with group legal to identify ad-hoc training requirements based on breaches
  • Main point of contact for all group compliance needs to facilitate the delivery of annual compliance requirements through our learning management system
  • Provide specialist learning support to compliance stakeholders to make sure our compliance content is engaging 
  • Partner with internal communication team to ensure everyone at Reach is aware of their compliance requirements and meeting the deadlines set

To do this role effectively you will need:

  • Previous experience working within journalism
  • Deep, and contemporary, media law knowledge across the UK including Scottish and Irish Law
  • Experience in design and delivery of editorial legal training in a business or academic environment
  • Deep understanding of IPSO and regulatory requirements in journalism
  • Passion for developing others
  • An appreciation and passion for compliance
  • NCTJ or equivalent qualification
  • Experienced learning professional
  • Successful background in developing people
  • An understanding of multimedia publishing
