A vacancy has arisen for a local democracy reporter in Cheshire.

As part of the BBC's Local Democracy Reporting Service you will join the Mid Cheshire Guardian series which includes the Northwich, Winsford & Middlewich, Knutsford & Wilmslow Guardian, based in Warrington.

It is a demanding public journalism role as you will be covering two local authorities across a large area of the county - Cheshire West and Chester, and Cheshire East.

We are looking for someone with enthusiasm, and the ability to generate exclusive articles and write engaging and sparkling copy.

An excellent knowledge and passion for local government is necessary as you will need to be able to hold local authorities to account.

Shorthand and a formal qualification in journalism are essential for this role, as is the ability to work to tight deadlines on multiple titles.

The vacancy is available as part of the BBC-funded local democracy scheme and would ideally suit a senior reporter looking to expand their career, however applications from outstanding newly NCTJ-qualified reporters will also be considered.

Due to the area being covered a driving licence and access to a car is essential for this role.

The Local Democracy Reporting Service is designed to increase coverage and scrutiny of councils across the UK. Funded by the BBC, our reporters provide in-depth coverage of our local authorities that feature on our websites, newspapers and broadcasts across the region.

The Mid Cheshire Guardian Series is owned by Newsquest, one of the biggest media publishers in the UK.

To apply for the role or for more information, email Cheshire group editor Hayley Smith at Hayley.smith@nqnw.co.uk by Friday, 7 August. Applications will be considered as soon as they are received.
