Cumbria's award-winning newspaper publisher, Newsquest Cumbria has a rare opportunity for a talented local democracy journalist to join its team.

Newsquest Cumbria is part of one of the country's leading regional media companies and the publisher of the News and Star, The Mail, The Cumberland News, The Westmorland Gazette, the Times and Star, The Whitehaven News and the Hexham Courant.  

The vacancy available will be part of the BBC-funded local democracy scheme with the role based in Carlisle.

Cumbria is a beautiful part of the world in which to live and work and offers reporters a wide variety of stories to get their teeth into.

The ideal candidate will already have a full set of NCTJ preliminary qualifications, including 100 wpm shorthand, have a great news sense, good writing ability, speed and accuracy, the confidence to work under pressure and the desire and hunger to find their own exclusive stories.

A driving licence and access to a car is essential.
