Lloyd’s List, the shipping industry’s leading source of news, analysis and data is seeking a News Editor who can balance essential breaking news with the ability to drive forward big insight stories that are considered required reading by our audience of shipping industry professionals. This is a key position within the global Lloyd’s List editorial team, taking responsibility for the daily, market-shaping news agenda.

This senior position will have the experience and skills to further enhance our coverage and understand how best to reach our subscribers with relevant insight, opinion and data. Sound editorial judgment and direction of staff is essential. The role requires exceptional editing skills, the ability to bring together teams and an unwavering commitment to quality journalism produced with integrity, authority and purpose.

The role:

  • Manage and oversee the writing and editing of Lloyd’s List’s daily news output, including the Daily Briefing and e-mail bulletins.

  • Help set the editorial agenda and organise story flow from a global network of staff correspondents, taking responsibility for delivering quality coverage and helping to build the Lloyd’s List audience.

  • Work closely with the Editor to ensure the smooth and efficient operation and development of the editorial team.

  • Demonstrate exceptional instincts for high-performing content on social channels, and be confident using social media, analytics and SEO to build a quality audience.

What we are looking for:

  • Excellent news judgement and deep understanding of the global business market demands for news, insight and data, with specific shipping knowledge preferred

  • Detailed knowledge and strong reporting experience of the shipping and/or related industries worldwide

  • Proven people and team leadership skills in a fast-paced global news environment linking colleagues worldwide

  • Robust understanding of the law, shipping law and an up-to-date knowledge of laws of defamation and subjudice.

  • Advanced digital skills and understanding of how to use digital tools to enhance reader experience and loyalty.

  • A keen eye for detail, grammar and accuracy, with excellent editing skills.

  • Experience with multi-media, including video and audio, an advantage.
