Job description

HuffPost UK is looking for a reporter to anchor its coverage from Manchester.

This is our second appointment outside of London and it is central to our mission to become a truly national news organisation, taking a perspective from outside of the London “media bubble”.

This is not a local journalism role; you will be a key part of a national news team but with the appointment of reporters outside of London we are hoping to shift our centre of gravity to where our audiences actually are. We want you to find stories of national importance and interest.

You will have proven experience in breaking stories and exclusives and have a record of bringing stories to life with flair, intelligence and imagination.

You’ll be able to articulate the bigger picture, yet capable of tackling the detail, as well picking up breaking news and spotting quirky or offbeat stories that others miss.

You will have a talent for getting people to tell you their stories, and building contacts in a community. You will be passionate about what the real story of the UK is and have a strong sense of the stories you want to pursue.

The successful candidate will understand how the social web is redefining news in a digital age, while not losing sight of the enduring value of telling stories with the highest standards of rigour and insight.

Qualifications - what will you need to be considered?

· Experience working as a reporter

• A record of breaking stories

· Excellent writing and editing skills

· A hunger for news and ability to drill down into detail and data

· Creative thinker who thrives under pressure and isn’t afraid to take risks

· Positive and collaborative team player with the gravitas to influence editors

· Strong knowledge of social media distribution and social networking tools

· Excellent organisational skills with an eye for video as well as written narrative
