Our mission is to tell the untold: digging deep to bring to our audience unreported issues and stories, as well as angles and context that are missed by other media.

We are looking for full-time and part-time online reporters to join our team in London. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a news agency based in one of the UK’s most attractive cities, where we will give an alternative perspective on the news affecting people’s lives in the UK and internationally.

Role Responsibility

The journalist will report on developments across the UK and abroad; based in London and but also working on location when required by the editor. In addition, the successful candidate will provide timely, expert and authoritative multimedia news coverage and analysis across Sputnik International outlets.

Reporting on all aspects of political, commercial, economic, social and cultural life in both the UK and internationally, the journalist will keep abreast of relevant news topics and current and future events. The reporter should alert editors to breaking news and be prepared to file accurate and spontaneous reports. Researching, preparing and presenting interviews, discussions and analysis will be central to the role.

As part of our busy multi-platform journalistic team, the candidate shall report to the Senior Producer / Desk Editor as and when required. This role is focused on producing radio online content. Therefore material will need to be compiled quickly and accurately into a style suited to our online brand and style.

Flexibility is critical to this position as the successful candidate will be required to work on a shift basis, and occasionally weekends and public holidays determined by the news agenda. The ability to work flexibly using a range of multi-media is paramount. The reporter may also be required to travel within a target region for assignments and training.

We are therefore seeking an experienced journalist with a good track record of generating original stories. These stories and ideas should then be transformed into compelling and creative news.

The Ideal Candidate

In addition to a strong understanding of UK and international politics, the candidate should also demonstrate innovative and creative approaches to bring Sputnik to a wider audience. The successful candidate will be able to write in an engaging manner and demonstrate awareness of the local media market and their listener base. Furthermore, he or she should have the confidence and tenacity to pursue information, overcome obstacles and pitch ideas to senior colleagues. A critical eye and an appreciation of what makes compelling news are qualities we are looking for. Some experience of both live studio production and field reporting is essential, as is the following:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Native or fluent English
  • Other European languages (preferred)
  • Well-developed IT skills
  • Ability to utilise social media
  • EU citizenship/right to work in the UK
