The Worcester News is looking for a senior reporter to join its successful newsroom.
Among the fastest-growing regional news brands in the country, the daily Worcester News has always ‘punched above its weight’. We like to be the first to report on breaking news and regularly find the stories that make national headlines. Our reporting team are out and about as much as possible, reporting from the scene of breaking news, covering local events, and building strong relationships with local communities and contacts. Our newsroom not only covers Worcester but Malvern and Evesham as well.
You will be part of a team covering breaking news, attending court, and local events, reporting on the comings and goings of our busy High Street, and writing first-person features. The city of Worcester is ideally placed on the banks of the River Severn and has all the news you’d expect in a busy urban patch, but the benefit of being surrounded by beautiful countryside – the Cotswolds and Malvern Hills are within 30 30-minute drive away.
You will need a keen eye for a story, be confident posting on a range of social media platforms and be comfortable taking pictures and videos as well as possessing excellent writing skills. We are ideally looking for a reporter with an NCTJ Level 7 qualification. However, this role could suit an ambitious trainee with a Gold Standard NCTJ Level 5 diploma. 100 wpm shorthand is essential as is a driving licence and access to a car.
