Senior fresh foods reporter, The Grocer

As part of a major investment in its coverage, The Grocer is looking to recruit a senior fresh foods reporter to develop and expand our news and insight on the fresh foods sector – with a particular focus on meat and poultry.

This is a new role on The Grocer’s award-winning editorial team, which would suit an experienced business journalist who knows how to get scoops and build relationships with senior industry figures and has an appetite for investigative work. The Grocer has a strong track record of promoting internally, and we are looking for someone with the drive and ambition to pursue a promotion to an editing role in due course.

Previous experience of the fresh foods industry and/or grocery retail are desirable but not essential. What’s non-negotiable are an eye for a story, the ability to work across a range of formats, including news, blogs and long form, as well as strong digital and social media skills. Video production and editing skills would also be a plus.

The Grocer is the bible of the £200bn grocery sector, and the flagship title of the highly successful William Reed group, a family-owned publishing, events and market research business, whose interests include operations in the UK, France, Singapore and the US.

We’re based in newly refurbished offices near Gatwick, with its fast connections to London, Brighton and the world (recent trips have included Italy, Thailand, Ireland, Singapore).

The Grocer sets very high standards, and it’s a high pressure environment, with daily and weekly deadlines, but for the right candidate, it offers huge job satisfaction, a strong career path (it’s proved a fantastic breeding ground for developing talent and great journalism), a competitive salary, as well as company benefits including:

  • A contributory pension scheme
  • Life Assurance
  • 25 days’ holiday
  • Free car parking
  • Season ticket loan (on successful completion of probationary period)
