Wales' new national newspaper - The National - has now become a weekly print publication and we are hiring a senior reporter to help us make sure it is the best product on the stands every Saturday.
This role will have a focus on the content needed for the printed newspaper, which may include contributing to the business and countryside sections as well writing culture-focused content and agenda-setting news investigations. Your outstanding content will also help build our digital subscription audience online too.
This role is for an experienced/qualified senior journalist with a strong interest in Welsh affairs, whether that is culture, business, rural affairs or social issues.
You will be a self-starter with lots of ideas and a proven track record of producing great content, from hard-hitting exclusives or must-read interviews.
You should be confident on social media, where you will be expected to promote The National, create engagement around content and build your own brand as a journalist.
We will hire the best candidate but want to create a balanced team. Flexible or part-time working will also be considered for the right candidate but some weekend working will be required on a rota basis.
We would welcome applications from candidates from north, mid and west Wales.
Welsh language skills are an advantage. A driving licence and access to a car is a must.
The National was created because many people in Wales get their news from UK sources that do not tell the stories from a Welsh perspective. We believe Wales needs a strong national media and aim to fill that void as part of a richer Welsh media landscape.
We launched on 1 March, St David's Day, and have quickly grown to more than 500 digital subscribers. Following the success of our special launch edition in print, we took the title weekly in mid-April.
This is an opportunity to be part of an exciting new news title in Wales from an early stage and to come with us on the journey as we grow.
As part of Newsquest, you will join one of the biggest news publishing companies in the UK during a period of major transformation.
If this sounds like the job for you, please apply with your CV, covering letter and examples of your published work and three ideas for stories you would love to write for The National to editor email@example.com by 7 May. We may recruit before the closing date so do not delay.
