Do you have a nose for a story, top-notch research and writing skills and the desire to make a difference in consumers' lives? We are looking for a (Senior) Researcher/Writer to cover the telecoms market as part of our investigative research team.

We’ve been working to make life better for UK consumers for the last 60 years, and our investigative research team delves into the issues that really matter to consumers - from slow broadband speed, to patchy mobile phone reception or nuisance calls. Our flagship title Which? magazine has more than 633,000 subscribers, and we’re looking to engage with even more.

What you'll be doing

As a (Senior) Researcher/Writer you'll be expected to deliver research and content across our publications, including Which? magazine, our website, and even supporting our hard-hitting campaigns.

You’ll be responsible for carrying out your own research whether that’s analysing large data sets about nuisance calls or working with specialists to commission surveys about the best services available. We’ll want you to use a range of investigative methods to research, and uncover, key issues facing consumers within telecoms. You'll use your talent for turning your findings into clear and engaging copy across both print and online.

This is primarily a desk-based role, but you will be required to use your networking skills to build external relationships with key contacts, and your varied approaches to investigative research may take you out-and-about to experience issues through the eyes of the consumer.

We need you to have:

Experience of working on telecoms issues would be an advantage, but enthusiasm for this topic area is essential. We’ll also need to see

  • Excellent print and online writing skills

  • Solid analytical and research skills, from carrying out a range of in-depth research to the ability to analyse research results and spot a story in data

  • Someone who is numerate and comfortable handling data in spreadsheets

  • Positivity, drive and a hawk-like eye for detail

  • Strong project and time management skills; adept at juggling multiple projects to tight deadlines and always meeting deadlines

  • Creativity and the ability to pitch new ideas as well as writing to brief

  • Understanding of SEO and driving traffic and experience of using CMS software

We'd love it if you had:

  • Data mining and visualisation skills

  • Experience of writing for a consumer audience
