Wellcome is an independent foundation dedicated to improving health by helping great ideas to thrive. Social media is a key tool for achieving our goals in tackling some of the biggest health challenges and campaigning for better science. We are looking for someone who can bring a journalistic approach to social media at Wellcome, creating fast turnaround content that sparks conversations, adds insight and is shared and re-used by those we want to reach.

In this new role, you will lead a small team consisting of a digital marketing manager and a graphic designer. Together, you will plan, create and evaluate content on our lead topics. You will have a strong track record in story-telling on social media, experimenting with new formats and reacting to the news agenda. Sound judgement and clear thinking are essential.

You will need to demonstrate

  • Significant experience in journalism, writing for a digital agency or running social media in-house
  • A record of high output as a news reporter or social media manager
  • Strong experience with social platforms, particularly Twitter
  • Excellent news sense and editorial judgement, with a focus on great shareable content
  • A strong understanding of the tools, trends and platforms on digital media
  • Knowledge of digital promotion
