The Bridgwater Mercury is looking for a top-quality trainee or senior reporter to join its talented team in beautiful Somerset.

We are looking for a reporter keen to get stuck in and take their career to the next level in a patch bursting with stories.

Bridgwater is the Home of Carnival, as well as the site of Europe's largest construction project - the Hinkley C nuclear power plant, so the reporter covering the area needs to be able to engage with everything from councils to court, planning to pop music, producing compelling off-diary exclusives, online blogs, exciting pictures and video.

The right person will have a web-first attitude and be keen to engage a growing online audience with exciting and innovative content.

Away from the news, you will be based in one of the country's most beautiful counties, home to cider, seaside and the Glastonbury Festival.

But at the heart of it all will be the community you live and work in and you will be encouraged to get out there and make strong contacts.

The job will include occasional evening work, and if something breaks we will expect you to be there at the front line, bringing live coverage first to our readers.

We are looking for passion and someone who thrives on the adrenaline rush of a breaking news story; this is not your average 9 to 5 office job.

A driving licence is essential.
