We are seeking an outstanding ‘gold standard’ trainee reporter to work on our flagship daily title The Bolton News in one of Newsquest's biggest and fastest-growing publishing centres.

You will join Newsquest Lancashire and Greater Manchester, publishers of The Bolton News, Lancashire Telegraph, Bury Times, The Oldham Times and The Messenger - breaking agenda-setting news on one of the most exciting patches in the UK.

We need someone with great local knowledge and who can root out those hidden stories that our audience love to read - you will be starting to learn to build contacts and already be skilled at navigating social media, to find stories and share your content.

Our ideal candidate can write sharp, engaging online headlines and brilliant intros that hook the reader.

You are a people person, with a good sense of humour, ready to work hard and join a young, energetic team, full of ideas.

Shorthand and your NCTJ prelims to gold standard are highly desirable for this role. A driving licence and access to a car is also desirable.

In return, you will get to cover Bolton for our portfolio of brands at one of the most important times in our history as the area contends with ambitious regeneration projects while dealing with the fallout from the coronavirus pandemic.

And we will support you as you start the next stage of your training working towards your NQJs.

As a member of Newsquest, you will be part of a network of dozens of leading news brands across the country providing 24/7 coverage of news, sport and showbiz to tens of millions of people.
