Lee Baker is to lead the Association of Online Publishers (AOP) as director with immediate effect, the body announced today.
Last week the AOP announced the appointment of a new co-chair, Dominic Collins, group director for Autotrader.co.uk at Trader Media Group, who will replace Alison Reay in October.
In the meantime, Baker will report to Reay, digital and multimedia director for Telegraph Media Group, and Tim Faircliff, general manager of consumer media at Thomson Reuters.
Baker joins from Microsoft Advertiser & Publisher Solutions where he was commercial lead. Prior to joining Microsoft he was business development director for Europe at Lycos UK Ltd.
"This is an exciting time for Lee to be joining the AOP," said a joint statement from Reay and Faircliff.
"We are confident that he will be able to take the AOP to the next level and help add value to all our members in this challenging economic climate."
The demand for a 'strong voice' in the industry has never been greater, said Baker, 'and the needs of our members never been wider'.
"I look forward to bringing my experience to help build on all of the hard work of the team and our members, and lead the AOP to the next stage of its evolution," he said.
Baker fills a role vacant since July, when the acting director Liz Somerville left to work for a charity. Ruth Brownlee was the director until October 2008, when she stepped down after 10 months in the role to spend more time with her family.
