Today marks National Burns Awareness Day, a momentum developed to raise awareness of the surprising number of burn victims in society, and to aid understanding of what can be done to prevent such traumatic experiences occurring.

Lucy Wilson, a journalism student from Sheffield Hallam University and reporter at Pearl Works Productions, has decided to turn her traumatic experience of suffering burns as a baby into a positive one, by pursuing a career in feature writing.

She hopes that by encouraging other people to tell their stories, her work will not only help to battle any stigma surrounding people with impairments or disabilities, but will encourage people to be proud of their bodies and highlight the positives in their lives.
