How is it of use to journalists? Many publishers have built tools to help their journalists quickly create shareable images to use on social media. But for smaller newsrooms or freelance journalists, who might not have the resources to do the same, there are some options available online to help make their social feeds more engaging.

Adobe Post, launched in December, allows you to create eye-catching graphics for social networks – useful when you need to draw attention to a link or story online.

After logging in with your Adobe username and password, the app is easy to use. Simply select a template from the homepage to get started, or create one from scratch.

Each template consists of an image and text, which users can personalise by applying a variety of design filters and different typefaces.

For example, here's one image we created for our video report on radio journalism:

Background images can be changed by pulling in new photos from a multitude of sources, including your iPhone's camera roll and a collection of public-domain photos already available inside the app.

Adobe Post also allows you to edit the font type and size, and even helps you pick the best colours by offering a variety of suggestion that complement your background image.

The app only let's you create square images, so it's best suited for Instagram or Facebook. You can save your past creations inside the app to tweak and reuse in the future – a handy feature if you need to create some designs in advance or build templates for a series of articles.

Once you're happy with your work, you can share each image on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, send it via email, and save it to your camera roll.

By default, the app will leave a watermark on the bottom right corner of the app, #AdobePost. Although a slight inconvenience, the text can be removed by tapping on the watermark and then sharing a recommendation post to an email contact.

An in-app purchase is also an option if you want to use more than the allotted 2GB of Creative Cloud file storage.
