The BBC today confirmed that news presenter Huw Edwards will be anchor for the broadcaster's coverage of the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

In a release the BBC said details of its broadcasting plans, including the full presenting line-up, will be revealed early next year.

"I am delighted with the news and consider it a great honour to play a part in what I am sure will be a huge national celebration," Edwards said in the release.

Edwards has previously been BBC anchor for the Pope's visit, The State Opening of Parliament and the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics and Commonwealth games.
