The Regional Press Awards are calling for entries from every corner of the newsroom – from the industry stalwarts who have been in the trenches for years to the fresh faces bringing new energy to the craft. Whether it is breaking news, investigative features, or a human-interest story that stuck with readers long after the presses stopped, this is your chance to prove you’re the one to watch in local journalism.
Deadline: 31 October 2024
Entry price: Free
These awards, launching at the Indie News Forum in Glasgow on 11 October 2024, aim to support UK journalists and small news organisations to have a positive social impact.
Winners will receive grants between £5,000 and £20,000, with a total fund of up to £100,000. Additionally, awardees will get eight months of coaching and mentoring to boost their journalism's impact, with results showcased at the 2025 Indie News Forum.
March
Gareth Jones Travelling Memorial Scholarship

Entry price: Free
A cash prize of £2,500 is up for grabs to students or graduates of Welsh universities, to fund a 1,800 word feature about Wales and the World to be published in the Western Mail as part of the newspaper's commitment to the memory of their journalist Gareth Jones. Applicants must send a 500-word cover letter outlining their experience in journalism and/or international affairs and a 1,000 word pitch for the story brief.
