Journalists from Trinity Mirror's Liverpool Daily Post and Liverpool Echo received eight awards at the second O2 Media Awards in Cheshire and Merseyside last night.

"It was a great night for the Liverpool Daily Post and Echo at last night's O2 awards. To walk away with so many awards across so many categories is confirmation and recognition of the talent, hard work and tenacity of not only our editorial team, but of everyone connected with these two great papers," said Alastair Machray, editor of Liverpool Echo.

Newspaper of the year went to the Newsquest title, Warrington Guardian, while the digital journalist prize went to Laura Davis , arts editor at the Liverpool Daily Post.

The Cheshire and Merseyside O2 Media Awards are part of a series of regional media contests for online, broadcast and print publications, run across the north of England, a release from the company stated. "The quality of entries from the region’s press was outstanding. We're delighted to be able to celebrate the huge service local and regional journalists provide in our towns and cities," said Glenn Manoff, O2’s director of communications and reputation, in the release.
