The National Union of Journalists has announced its intention to stage a protest outside the High Court on the first day of a judicial review of a production order made by police against news outlets.

The order for footage taken during the first two days of the Dale Farm eviction was approved by a judge in February, who ruled that there was "a clear and compelling case for disclosure of the material" held by freelance video journalist Jason Parkinson. The BBC, ITV, BSkyB, Channel 5 and Hardcash Productions were also subjects of production orders for footage they held and will also seek judicial review.

The NUJ is acting on behalf of Parkinson. The parties sought permission to appeal the order, which was granted last month.

According to an online post by the NUJ London Photographers' Branch, the union will bring together "freelance journalists and broadcasters" on 25 April outside the Royal Courts of Justice "to fight for judicial review on the Dale Farm production order".

The union is also organising a meeting in parliament "to discuss the protection of sources and journalistic material" on 19 April, which will be hosted by Labour MP Austin Mitchell.
