Pageant Media lead this year's Independent Publisher Awards shortlist with nominations in five of the 12 categories.

Pageant's nominations include Editor of the Year, for HFMWeek's Gwyn Roberts, and Independent Publishing Company of the Year, in which it wil go up against Sigaria, Green Pea Publishing, and Signature Publishing.

Signature, which won Magazine of the Year in 2009 for PONY, has four nominations along with Stream publishing. The two will compete for the Team of the Year Award.

In order to qualify for the awards, which are organised by the Periodical Publishers Association, publishers must have a turnover of £10 million or less.

This year sees the introduction of several new categories, including Sales Person of the Year and Media Brand of the Year.

According to a release, "The judges recognise that trading has continued to be tough and expect entries to be as much about ‘digging-in' and holding market positions as about breaking new ground."

The winners will be announced during the Independent Publisher Conference in London on 7 December.
