The Periodical Publishers Association has changed its name to just PPA to reflect the cross-media growth of the magazine industry.

According to Ian Locks, the organisation's chief executive, the old registered name of Periodical Publishers Association Ltd was no longer an accurate description of the group's work.

"In recent years the publication of magazines has evolved into a multiple platform activity across print, online and face to face media in what is now a gigantic £26.7 billion sector," Locks told Journalism.co.uk.

"In recognition of this, we are dropping use of 'Periodical Publishers Association' in favour of just 'PPA' and describing ourselves as 'the association for publishers and providers of consumer, customer and business media' in the UK - a description which we believe more accurately reflects the businesses of our members and the sector we represent."
