In his new role, Mr Aslet will be responsible for acting as an editorial consultant and writer for Country Life, as well as dealing with all its important public relations activities.
Mr Aslet joined Country Life after graduating from Peterhouse Cambridge with a degree in history of architecture, where he went on to be the title's architectural editor, later being appointed to editor in 1993.
Mr Aslet has been an important member of the title's team over the past 28 years, overseeing the magazine's Centenary year and the launch of countrylife.co.uk in 1999.
Paul Williams, managing director of Country & Leisure Media (CALM) said: "I'm delighted that Clive is taking on this important new role for Country Life - over many years he has made a fantastic contribution to one of IPC's most iconic brands."
Mr Aslet added: "Editing Country Life is the best job in journalism and I have enjoyed every minute of doing it. However, after 13 years, I find that my first love - writing - is once again making eyes at me. I am grateful to IPC for making it possible for me to pursue new projects, while, as editor-at-large, staying closely involved with the world's most civilised magazine."
Mark Hedges will replace Mr Aslet as editor-in-chief, when he commences his new job on 13 March.
