The Times has opened more areas of its site for free to overseas readers this week, including coverage of the run up to the US Presidential election in November.

Overseas readers can also access breaking news and highlights from the Times and Sunday Times. Travel, driving and business sections of the site are already free for overseas users.

"The Times and The Sunday Times have invested heavily in top-class news and commentary from the United States – correspondents with the stature of Gerard Baker and Andrew Sullivan," said Peter Bale, online editorial director.

"Times Online can now offer readers worldwide its own perspective on American politics at this vital time."

Users will still require a subscription to access the Times digital edition. Subscriptions range from £4.99 for one week to £89.99 for an annual seven-day-a-week package.
