US news media group Belo has signed an agreement with Yahoo! that will see 13 of its local television stations provide daily video content to the ever-expanding local news service of the web giant.

The companies intend to share advertising revenue generated from the video clips under the new agreement, which covers Belo TV services in Austin, Portland, Charlotte, San Antonio, Hampton/Norfolk, Seattle/Tacoma, Houston, Spokane, Louisville, St. Louis, New Orleans, Tucson and Phoenix.

Yahoo! and Belo already have an existing distribution relationship to supply the Yahoo! Hotjobs with local job postings. The two companies are also involved through a larger newspaper consortium for graphical advertising technology, cross-selling online advertising inventory, content distribution, and search.

The new deal, according to Yahoo!, means that it now competes with other local news video providers in 18 of the top 25 markets in the US.
