NewsGuard releases fact-checking chatbot for European news
The new service is trained on 12,000 rigorously vetted publishers on a revenue share model

News credibility platform NewsGuard has launched a news-focused chatbot across France, Italy, Germany, Austria and the UK, bringing reliable AI-powered news responses and real-time fact checks to European users. NewsGuard AI sources its answers exclusively from 12,000 rigorously vetted publishers — each compensated when their content is cited.
Designed as an antidote to disinformation-spreading chatbots, NewsGuard AI cites all sources, pays publishers a share of the revenue, and features 41 editorial guardrails to prevent false claims. European partners include news outlets like Ouest-France, Linkiesta and 5min.at, as well as journalism schools and universities.
NewsGuard journalists have rated more than 36,000 news sources since 2018, based on nine basic journalistic criteria. Only "generally reliable" sources are used within the chatbot, broadly including newspapers, magazines and broadcasters, opinion sites from across the political spectrum, local news startups, single-author news and commentary websites and Substack newsletters, state and local governments, think tanks, hospital systems, and research universities.
