Owen Meredith, current CEO of the News Media Association (NMA), will become managing director, public policy at dmg media in May 2026. He succeeds Peter Wright, editor emeritus, who retires after a 47-year career with the company. Meredith is known for leading the NMA’s industry engagement and the Make It Fair campaign, which opposed government plans to exempt AI companies from copyright law.

Peter Wright’s legacy includes 14 years as editor emeritus, where he helped establish the Independent Press Standards Organisation and lobbied for the Digital Markets Act to secure fair terms for news publishers. Previously, he spent 14 years as editor of The Mail on Sunday, overseeing major stories and record circulation figures.

dmg media’s leadership praised both figures. Lord Rothermere, DMGT chairman, called Meredith “the best person for the job” at a critical time for independent news media. Editor-in-chief Ted Verity highlighted Wright’s inspirational leadership and welcomed Meredith’s industry expertise and commitment to sustainable, high-quality journalism.
