The Press Association (PA) will become the latest news organisation to try out innovative new delivery platforms by covering the Budget in virtual world Second Life and through the short message network Twitter .

PA will keep residents of Second Life updated with a live feed of news to its Budget Info-Station while bloggers in the virtual world can pick up the Budget announcements on the blogHUD.com community.

It will also use the live notification capabilities of Twitter.com, which can distribute short messages via SMS and messenger systems, to deliver news in brief to desktops and mobiles.

Rob Freeman, content development manager for PA, said: "Twitter is tailor-made to send short update messages anywhere in the world, over the web, through instant messenger, or mobile phone text message.  We think this makes it a perfect platform for delivering timely Budget updates."

The agency will also run a multimedia website with realtime video from the House of Commons alongside a live feed of analysis from economic experts.

After the Chancellor’s statement, the site will become an on-demand multimedia application showing video highlights of the debate.
