In August 2018, The European Journalism Centre announced ten winners of its Global Health Journalism Grant Programme for Germany.

The programme aims to ‘improve awareness and understanding among diverse audiences in Germany’ on a range of global health topics across developing projects.

In this week’s podcast we speak to one of the recipients, the cross-border collaboration between three German and Indian journalists, Fiona Weber-Steinhaus, Julia Wadhawan and Sunaina Kumar about their project: At the Battlefront of Birth – the Role of Midwives in Development and Crisis.

It takes a look at the role of midwives in health care and women rights in two countries: India and Bangladesh. Four months after the team of reporters spent three weeks in the field, they discuss how grant money afford reporters flexibility not usually offered by newsrooms. The stories will be published in the new year.
