The coronavirus pandemic has hit the freelance journalism trade hard. Needless to say, travel writers have had it especially tough in times of travel bans and lockdown restrictions.
So how can you still write about the world when you cannot leave your home town?
In this week's podcast, we spoke to Lottie Gross, a seasoned travel writer with bylines for The Telegraph and The Times here in the UK, but also in US publications like Fodor’s and Tripsavvy.
She reveals how she was able to bounce back after 100 per cent of her income disappeared overnight. So if you are looking to find extra work now or you are worried about a second lockdown, Gross gives expert advice on how to write about the world from your home.
Those of you who were eyeing a career in travel writing but got cold feet because of the pandemic will find plenty of tips on how to enter this extremely competitive industry. This is especially relevant for younger and BAME writers - travel writing is very white, writers are mostly middle-age and editors are eager to find diverse voices.
