Political news website Politico , US broadcaster ABC and Google will join forces to cover a local news event.

The partners will provide multimedia coverage of a debate between the candidates for Virginia governor on June 3, with a particular emphasis on audience interaction, a press release said.

Before the event is broadcast live on ABC 7/WJLA , viewers will be able to submit video questions on YouTube and text comments via Google's moderator tool and the broadcaster and Politico's websites .

Using Google Moderator, which allows users to vote on a story or polls from a range of sites, participants will rank questions. Those with the most votes will be put to the governor candidates.

Broadcast interviews with each of the hopefuls will also be conducted by ABC anchor Leon Harris and Politico editor-in-chief John Harris.

The multimedia organisations will use a similar format to coverage a debate prior to Virginia's general election in November.
