Celebrated children’s author Sally Grindley is publishing her 152nd children’s book. The picture-led hardback, ‘It’s The Troll!’ has just been published and will be followed by a paperback edition in February 2018.
Sally, who lives in Gloucestershire, travels the world researching subjects and stories, and is one of the UK’s most successful children’s writers. She has enjoyed a career spanning over 40 years during which time she has focussed on enriching the reading habits of her audience of pre-readers up to those of the age of 13.
She is much loved for her interactive and colourful picture books, and ‘It’s The Troll!’ follows other interpretations of classic children’s stories. Her previous books also include ‘Shhh!’ based on Jack the Beanstalk and ‘Keep Out!’ inspired by Goldilocks.
‘It’s The Troll!’ Is the latest reworking of a classic fairy-tale focussing on the Three Billy Goats Gruff. Sally has once again completed the book with illustrations by Peter Utton.
Sally said: “While everyone knows and loves the characters in these much-loved fairytales, as the series has evolved I have been able to focus on the development of the characters.
“My illustrator Peter and I are quite literally on the same page when it comes to bringing each character, and sub-character, to life. It’s been a real pleasure to enrich this particular retelling of a much-loved fairy-tale, allowing parents and grandparents alike to bring alive a classic story for the next generation.”
When the mother of three isn’t writing, she takes great pleasure in touring the country holding workshops and giving talks to children in schools and libraries, celebrating her love of reading, story-telling and the igniting the imagination of children
“It’s The Troll! has been huge fun to play around with! These books are interactive with flaps for the children to open too. Not only are they a delight to spark the imagination of the audience, they also they teach adults how to tell a story, ” Sally said.
Sally originally worked for a national children’s book club where she was editorial director and she wrote her first book See Mouse Run in 1985. She’s won numerous prizes for her work, including the prestigious Smarties Gold Award for Spilled Water.
