James Hilton, personal trainer and founder of Jim’s Gym a pioneering online fitness platform for the over-55s, has raised more than £1,400 for not-for-profit nursing home, Horsfall House. He took part in the UT100 Ultra Marathon endurance race in Cape Town
James Hilton, personal trainer and founder of Jim’s Gym in Stroud, a pioneering online fitness platform for those over 55, has successfully rounded off his support for local not-for-profit nursing home, Horsfall House, in 2024, raising an impressive £1,420.
The funds were raised through James’s participation in the UT100 Ultra Marathon in Cape Town, a challenging 100km endurance race. Despite sustaining an early injury, James pushed through 43km of the race for more than 10 hours before making the difficult decision to withdraw.
“The money was raised to support the 100k Ultra I entered in Cape Town. Although I had to withdraw after rolling my ankle early on, I still managed to cover 43km and 2,100m of elevation,” James explained. “It was a tough but rewarding experience, and I’m proud to have surpassed my target of £1,000 to raise £1,420 for Horsfall House.”
Alongside his fundraising efforts, James also volunteered his time by providing free monthly fitness sessions to residents and staff, reinforcing the importance of movement and well-being in later life.
James said: “Supporting Horsfall House has been an incredibly rewarding experience. I believe that fitness and mobility are essential at every stage of life, and I wanted to give something back by helping those who may not have regular access to structured exercise.
“At Jim’s Gym, we make sure that our workouts are tailored to meet the needs of people over 55, with no boring routines — just exciting, engaging exercises that keep you moving with confidence, all from home and without joining a traditional gym.
“Through both Jim’s Gym and my volunteer work with Horsfall House, I’m dedicated to helping people over 50 lead healthier, more active lives.”
Jim’s Gym offers a variety of options for members, including live online classes and an expansive library of on-demand workouts. Whether members are looking to improve their strength, flexibility, or overall mobility, Jim’s Gym’s holistic approach to fitness helps individuals maintain their independence and energy as they age.
“Supporting Horsfall House has been an incredibly rewarding experience,” James continued. “The residents at the care home have inspired me, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to give back to the community.”
Andy Caudell, CEO at Horsfall House, said "James has been a fantastic supporter of Horsfall House, generously giving his time to help keep our residents active and engaged. Taking on such a gruelling challenge on our behalf shows his dedication to our cause, and we were both in awe and incredibly grateful. Funds like these directly impact the care we provide, especially in today’s challenging climate for adult social care.”
Horsfall House, a not-for-profit care facility in Minchinhampton, is dedicated to providing high-quality care for older adults, including those living with dementia. The funds raised by James will directly contribute to enhancing their services, ensuring that residents continue to receive outstanding care and support.
Looking ahead to this year James said: “2024’s fundraising was incredible, and many local charities could use support. I’ve got something in mind for 2025 - watch this space.”
