Generational communication expert and podcast host Alastair Greener is preparing to publish his first book, *Generationally Speaking - How to bridge the generation gap and communicate with confidence.*
The book, which is available to pre-order ahead of its release on 3 November, explores how people of different ages can connect more effectively at work and in everyday life.
“For the first time in history, eight generations are alive at the same time. Four of them are now working side by side. With this has come new challenges, as each generation brings different habits, preferences and expectations to the way they communicate,” said Alastair.
Alastair’s book looks at how to overcome those barriers, drawing on over a decade of research, consultancy and interviews. He also references a national survey he carried out in 2024, which offered fresh insights into the communication styles of different age groups.
“Generational differences can sometimes feel like a wall between people,” Alastair said. “We grew up with different technologies, values and influences. That shapes how we talk, how we listen and even how we interpret tone. But when we pause to understand those differences, communication becomes easier, and relationships become stronger, whether that’s at work or at home”
The book introduces each of the generations, explores their traits and cultural touchpoints, and shares practical strategies to help people work together more effectively. It also looks ahead to the newest generation, known as Generation Beta, who will grow up in a world defined by rapid technological change.
Alastair added “This isn’t about stereotypes or labels. It’s about recognising context and building bridges. Everybody has something to offer and something to learn, no matter what year they were born. My hope is that this book helps people move past frustration and start to see the strengths each generation brings.”
Alongside his speaking and consultancy work, Alastair hosts the *Generationally Speaking* podcast, where he talks with guests from different generations and backgrounds about the challenges and opportunities of living and working in a multi-generational world.
He has also set up the Generationally Speaking Foundation, which will donate £1 from every physical copy of the book sold to charities supporting disadvantaged young people.
Alastair Greener’s book Generationally Speaking – How to Bridge the Generation Gap and Communicate with Confidence is available to pre-order now on Amazon. His Alastair Greener - Generationally Speaking podcast is available on all major platforms.
