The UK’s leading discount voucher code site,, has today discovered that the week starting with Christmas Eve and ending with New Year’s Eve will be the most-alcohol filled week of the year. A survey has found that four in five people expect to drink more than the recommended daily unit guidelines.

The UK’s leading discount voucher code site,, has discovered that on average, members of the British public will drink 56 units of alcohol throughout the week – more than double recommended unit guidelines.

A survey of 1,720 people has found that 34 per cent of people are expecting to drink more than 10 units on Christmas Day, which is roughly the equivalent of a whole bottle of wine to themselves and two glasses of spirits.Thirteen per cent expect to drink more than 15 units on Christmas Day – 500 per cent of the RDA. A pint of lager is the equivalent of two units.

Eighty-two per cent of people said they expected to drink more than the recommended daily unit guidelines every day during the week starting Christmas Eve.

According to the NHS, men should not regularly drink more than three to four units of alcohol per day. Women should not regularly drink more than two to three units of alcohol per day.

Men will drink the most over this Christmas with 16 per cent of them saying that would drink more than 15 units on Christmas Day compared to 12 per cent of women.

However, New Year’s Eve will be the booziest day of the year, with 41 per cent admitting that they would probably drink more than 15 units.

Sixty-four per cent of people will spend over £200 on alcohol both at home and out this Christmas, whilst 61 per cent will spend over £200 on food, making alcohol a large expenditure this season.

According to the study, men are expected to consume nearly 1000 ‘liquid calories’ through alcohol on Christmas Day, compared to 800 for women. Guidelines suggest that the average man should eat 2500 calories a day, and women 2000. also looked at the most popular drinks this Christmas, asking the respondents to select their favourite Yuletide beverage from a list of nearly 30.
