To mark the 75th anniversary of the United Nations, the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) has created a commemorative album entitled UN75: Sustainable Engineering In Action

This beautifully designed hardback book highlights the ICE and UN's shared commitment to shaping a better future, and addresses the challenges that lie ahead, as informed by the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Featuring contributions from UN agencies such as UNOPS, UNICEF, UNESCO, the World Health Organization, UN Women and UN-Habitat, alongside the likes of WaterAid and a host of key partners, the book explores engineering's impact in such areas as health, human rights, climate, urban growth and economic development.

UN75: Sustainable Engineering In Action aims to raise awareness of the vital need for sustainable development and infrastructure, and highlight the role that engineering has to play in tackling the SDGs.

Produced in partnership with publisher Artifice Press, UN75: Sustainable Engineering In Action will be launched on 16 November 2020 at a high-profile international digital event. Delegates will include industry experts, UN representatives, senior ICE personnel, and ICE members from around the world. In addition to the book's launch, the event will feature addresses from prominent keynote speakers, panel discussions, Q&A sessions and the opportunity for attendees to interact and discuss the pressing issues of the day.

A 272-page hardback book of the highest quality in terms of research, writing and production, UN75: Sustainable Engineering In Action presents not only stories of engineering innovation, but also those of the major industries and commercial sectors that are part of the global sustainable development debate. These include consultants, architects, infrastructure organisations, environmental firms, educational institutions and other companies whose preeminent status in their respective field warrants their inclusion.

Ahead of the book's launch, Anna Danby, publishing director at Artifice Press, said: "The Institution of Civil Engineers and the United Nations have a shared history over the past 75 years. This publication celebrates that shared history and will bring a heightened awareness of the massive efforts that ICE and the UN are making to help the world reach targets for sustainable development. We are extremely proud of this book and honoured to be working alongside such exceptional organisations on this project."

Kate Holme, strategic partnerships director at WaterAid, said: "We are pleased to have contributed to this book marking 75 years of the UN. Clean water and good hygiene are the first line of defence against covid-19, yet millions of families around the world are living without them, putting lives and livelihoods at risk. The changing climate is making life even harder for poor communities already struggling to access clean water, with sources drying up and floods contaminating existing resources. Sustainable access to clean water, good sanitation and hygiene are the building blocks to a better future for all."

The book's readership will include ICE's 92,000 members worldwide, those in industries associated with engineering, UN agencies and the general public.
