Award-winning UK entrepreneur Julianne Ponan MBE, founder and CEO of Creative Nature, was one of the business owners invited to represent the vibrancy of small business at a prestigious world expo show in Japan.

Creative Nature was chosen as one of the brands to attend the Festival of Flavours within the UK Pavilion and also an Embassy event in Tokyo.

The founder of a challenger food brand which specialises in products free of the top 14 allergens, Julianne was part of the British Embassy Garden party in Tokyo and buyer reception in Osaka run by the Department of Business & Trade. Julianne is an export champion for the DBT and works with them around various business initiatives.

With her team, Creative Nature’s products are now available in 18 countries with more coming onstream. The DBT has supported them to overcome red tape, deal with cross border issues and educate around cultural matters.

Julianne said: “Travelling to Japan with the Department for Business and Trade was an invaluable experience. It allowed me to see the market first-hand and truly understand how our products fit within it.

“I had the opportunity to meet high-quality buyers who showed genuine interest in our allergen-free range, and I gained insight into how consumers are purchasing and engaging with products in this space.

“Being part of the UK trade mission was an honour and it opened doors, created meaningful connections, and highlighted the global potential for our brand. Big thank you to the Department for Business and Trade.”

On her return from Japan, Julianne was then invited to the launch of the Government’s UK Trade Strategy. It’s been called a ‘reset’ for positioning the UK as being ‘open for business’ and ready to lead in high growth sectors.

“From a small business perspective, here’s what stands out,” Julianne said.

“The emphasis on supporting businesses to export and scale is encouraging especially in what has become a more complex global trading environment.

“For small businesses like mine, having a trade environment that is both opportunity-driven and protective is essential. We need the tools, access, and support to trade confidently whether it's our first international order or our hundredth.”

In 2023, Julianne was awarded an MBE for services to business, the food industry and for campaigning work for the allergy community. Her company was also named Micro Business of the Year 2024 at the International Trade Awards. Creative Nature is a pioneering brand in the free-from food industry, committed to providing high-quality, delicious, and safe food options for people with allergies and dietary restrictions.
