The Loo of the Year Awards, the UK’s leading independent washroom benchmarking scheme, has reached a major milestone: both its name and logo are now officially registered trademarks.

Since acquiring the Awards in 2021, managing directors Becky Wall BEM and Charles Wall, together with Awards Manager Jane and their team of independent inspectors, have worked to elevate standards across the sector and expand the profile of washroom excellence nationwide.

“This is a key step in the ongoing development of the Loo of the Year Awards,” said Becky Wall. “Our trademark status confirms that the Loo of the Year Awards are not only recognised, but also protected, giving added confidence to our entrants, sponsors, and partners.

“For clients, it means you are joining a trusted and credible programme. For sponsors, it strengthens visibility and credibility. And for everyone involved, it demonstrates our long-term commitment to consistency, fairness, and raising standards across the sector.”

Founded in 1987, the Awards are widely recognised as the UK’s authoritative scheme for assessing and celebrating ‘away from home’ washroom facilities. Each facility is independently assessed against 101 criteria including cleanliness, décor, signage, accessibility, and customer care, with unannounced inspections providing a rigorous and transparent grading process. Entrants range from pubs and hotels to shopping centres, schools, motorway services, and hospitals.

The Loo of the Year Awards recently expanded their team with Carl Smith, an industry leader in accessible toilet provision, who will work alongside Becky and Charles to encourage participation in the scheme and champion high standards in inclusive washroom facilities.

Looking ahead, the Loo of the Year Awards 2026 ceremony will take place at the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull in January. Paralympic champion Chris Hunt Skelley MBE will be the keynote speaker, sharing his journey as a visually impaired athlete and highlighting the importance of accessible washrooms. International professional speaker and business networking expert Stefan Thomas will host the event as MC, guiding attendees through a day of celebration, awards presentations, and sector networking.

“The Awards ceremony is more than just a celebration. It’s where our industry comes together to showcase best practice, highlight innovation, and commit to higher standards for the future,” Becky added.
