According to research published on the My Favourite Voucher Codes blog, millions of people get the urge to splurge after having a few drinks. While this might seem harmless enough, there is a concern that it could lead to financial difficulties.
More than two thirds (67%) of UK consumers search for voucher codes online, but just one in five use them at least once a week. If shoppers change their habits and use these voucher codes more often, they could prevent these drunken spending sprees.
Anyone that is more than just a little tipsy might be inclined to book that dream holiday, buy that new smartphone they’ve been clamouring after, or even buy something completely random, because it’s so easy.
According to the research, the most common shopping destination for sozzled shoppers is Amazon, with over half visiting the online retailer. This is likely to be down to the ease of buying with its one-click checkout. As such, adding another step to the buying process – using voucher codes – could prevent consumers from spending unnecessarily whilst intoxicated.
That’s not the only way that voucher codes can help, as if shoppers are adamant and do end up buying items after a night on the beer, they can cut the cost of their purchases.
Amazon voucher codes can give consumers anything from free delivery to up to 30% off selected items, so instead of spending an average £142 while drunk they could save over £40 just by using voucher codes.
According to the report published on My Favourite Voucher Codes, it’s not just the occasional CD or DVD that people are buying while tanked-up, many admitted that they have booked holidays (18%) and even bought a new TV (6%).
Founder of My Favourite Voucher Codes, Julian House, said: "It’s worrying to see that people are spending so much money when under the influence of alcohol. I’m pleased that our voucher codes can both help prevent people from spending unnecessarily and cut the cost of their purchases."
