NEW MODEL ARMY are set to release an exclusive, limited edition, 30th Anniversary box-set on November 8th 2010 and play four UK dates during an extensive tour around the globe.
Formed by singer Justin Sullivan in Bradford in 1980, the bands beginnings were inspired by Punk Rock, Northern Soul and the incendiary atmosphere of the times. Since then, they have had a long, creative and eventful journey. They have been massively influential in 'post-punk', 'folk-rock', 'politico-rock', 'goth', 'metal' but have successfully and strongly resisted belonging to any of these categories or genres. 2010 sees the celebration of 30 years in the business for the five piece outfit who have never lost the ability to evolve, to thrill or to challenge both live and on record. With their inspirational back catalogue of songs, they remain central to the lives of thousands of devoted fans from all walks of life spread across the world.
As their name suggests the band work as an organisation with over ten former members. Their current line up features founding member Justin Sullivan on vocals and guitar, Nelson on bass, Marshall Gill on lead guitar with Michael Dean on drums and Dean White on keyboards.
With 13 studio albums from 1984's 'Vengeance' to 2009's 'Today Is a Good Day' New Model Army have recorded over 200 songs. The track listing on the double CD anthology, which will be part of the box-set, has drawn on music from three decades. The final 30 tracks on this amazing collection have been chosen by past and present band members and include a handful of new mixes and additions.
While some of the contents may be released separately (and later), the 10 inch, limited box-set will include three DVD 9's with over eight hours of footage, featuring full concerts from The Marquee (1985) and WDR concerts from Philipshalle (1990), Bizarre Festival (1996), and Koln Palladium (2006).
It will also include promotional videos, a number of art videos (some of which have never been seen before), bootleg material from different eras of the band's history and an eighty page hardback book of photos tracing the bands 30 years. Finally extra editions to feature include art prints, an A3 New Model Army collage jigsaw puzzle and stencils of the band's logo.
If this wasn't enough the band are also playing four shows in the UK!
Playing for two nights in Nottingham and two nights in London, New Model Army will play two sets for each show: one acoustic, the other with their full line up and encores included. Just to add that extra bit of magic for their 30th anniversary, the band will repeat the same process for the second night in each city with a totally different set of material. They also promise to play at least 4 songs from each of the 13 studio albums (including the two B Sides/Lost Songs compilations).
There are very few established bands in NMA's position of still being able to record and release what they like when they like, maintaining, and in recent years increasing, a worldwide following, without making a single compromise.
