Entrepeneur and pet lover Holly Bird (it’s no pun that’s her name!) has started a new premium pet-sitting business covering Malmesbury, Swindon, Wiltshire, Bath and the Cotswolds.
Holly, who lives in Malmesbury, loves animals and alongside her existing business managing a team of virtual assistants, she thought it would be fun to join a pet-sitting app for those weekends or evenings when she didn’t have childcare responsibilities.
“I co-parent our children with my former partner,” she said. “This makes having my own pets impractical and joining an ‘app’ to help out pet owners around pet sitting or dog walking really worked for me because I missed having my own pet. There’s nothing quite like having a furry friend in your life.
“However what I did not expect was that I’d soon be booked up for every spare day and I realised there’s a need for a high-quality service in the Cotswolds area for those who wish their dogs, cats and small pets to be cared for within their own homes.”
In her impatience to get the ball rolling, Holly initially named the company Hector’s Happy Haven. Unfortunately, the name was not well received among friends and family, and Holly had to concede that it wasn’t the best choice!
“A close friend suggested I use something quirky and she mentioned the word ‘birddog’ in her brainstorming. Birddog Catwalk just came to mind as something fun and encompassing a variety of animals.”
Holly then recruited two staff members and they are now serving pet owners across North Wiltshire, Bath and the Cotswolds.
The team are offering pet sitting services, dog walking and drop in visits to families, couples and home-owners and they can go further afield if overnight cover is required. Prices start from £15 per hour.
“We’re so grateful to those who have already booked our services,” Holly said. “We are reliable and also we take a sustainable approach to what we offer ensuring we use sustainable pooh bags, minimise using single-use plastics and we provide organic dog treats too.”
