Stephen – a qualified surveyor - has worked for the Association for more than ten years and has held roles including technical officer and, more recently, general manger.
In recent years, Stephen has developed greater links with other property-related professional groups and helped play a key role in the trade body’s ongoing expansion.
Les Meikle, Chairman of the PCA, said: “This new designation more fully represents the aspirations of the association and the increasing public profile of Stephen.
“Since his appointment as General Manager, Stephen has responded to his role with integrity, dedication and his usual unstinting enthusiasm, all qualities that we would wish for and expect in our CEO.
“The Board offers Stephen its fullest support in taking the association to its growing position as the preferred partner for consumers, professionals and contractors in all the areas of the trade body’s expertise.”
The promotion comes as The Property Care Association bucks the trend in spite of the economic conditions.
Significant milestones achieved in 2012 include members’ revenue increasing by some eight per cent over the last 12 months to break through the £100 million per annum barrier. Membership has also been at its highest level for the last 25 years.
Key to the success of the Association are developments including the recently launched Invasive Weed Control Group, borne out of the PCA’s work with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. This group offers consumers a recognised route to reach professional companies capable to treating invasive plants such as Japanese Knotweed.
The PCA’s technical training programme has also gone from strength to strength - and the general trend towards consumers undertaking home improvements, rather than moving, has also had an impact on the success of the Association’s members overall.
Mr Meikle added: “As many existing home owners struggle to source mortgages for their next move up the property ladder, they are having little choice but to make their existing property suit their expanding needs.
“This may involve building extensions, roof and basement conversions, making unused or previously damp areas of the property habitable.
“Consumers are increasingly looking to us as the recognised trade body for such works.
“As well as the peace of mind benefits of selecting a PCA Member, further reassurance is offered by the fact the Association is a founder member of Trustmark.
“This means PCA members are validated through this Government-backed scheme, which declares that all contractors working in the domestic environment are trustworthy and competent.
“In addition, many contractors can provide access to insured guarantees, provided by Guarantee Protection Insurance – known as GPI – which is a UK-based insurance company, authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority.”
