30th April 2014 – Bath, UK – Online voucher codes website, My Favourite Voucher Codes, has donated over £250 to the food charity, FareShare.
FareShare tackles both food poverty and food waste. By redistributing good food that ends up wasted by the industry, it provides meals for thousands of people in need every single day. According to the charity, 5.8 million people in the UK live in ‘deep poverty’. This means it is difficult for them to pay for essentials, such as food.
However, rather than cooking meals for individuals directly, it delivers food to almost 1,300 projects and charities in the UK, from homeless hostels to school breakfast clubs. Last year, FareShare contributed towards 12 million meals and saved each charity it supports an average of £13,000.
The £256.47 donation from My Favourite Voucher Codes will allow the charity to provide 1,026 meals to vulnerable people right across the country. The work FareShare does also relieves the pressure on the charities it helps, allowing them to reinvest the money they would have spent on food on other important services.
This is just one of many contributions the website has made since April 2012. In the two years since My Favourite Voucher Codes launched, it has donated thousands of pounds to various UK charities. The latest contribution brings the grand total to £5,796.75 – with donations from February and March still to be added.
The founder and owner of the online voucher codes site, Julian House, wanted to ensure that charities continued to receive the donations they rely on in times of austerity. By donating 20% of net profits to charity, shoppers are able to give back to society without having to pay anything extra out of their own pocket.
Commenting on the £256 his company donated to FareShare, Mr House said: “Food poverty has been highlighted in the media recently, so it’s clear to see just how many people rely on services like FareShare. I am happy that My Favourite Voucher Codes can make a difference to people’s lives. I am proud to say that our website visitors have helped pay for more than 1,000 meals and contributed to the fight against hunger.”
Anyone that wishes to get involved can vote for their preferred charity on the website’s home page (www.myfavouritevouchercodes.co.uk). The charity that receives the most votes receives 20% of that month’s net profits.
