Real Madrid lost 5-1 to Barcelona then got rid of their manager

El Clasico is an event that people look forward to. Avid football fans make time for this match. It is, after all, a meeting between two of the best clubs in Spanish and world football: Real Madrid and Barcelona. And in La Liga, it only happens twice in a season (there are chances of that happening elsewhere but it hasn't yet – not in a long while).

For the 2018-2019 season, the first meeting took place in Barcelona. Real Madrid were not in good shape, despite having more than five players on their current squad shortlisted for the Ballon d'Or.

Real Madrid came into the match not having won in four matches (they did draw one). So things were not really looking good. The weeks-long nightmare became much worse when Luis Suarez scored a hat-trick and two of his teammates added a goal each. Real Madrid only managed to net one.

Not long after, Real Madrid sacked their manager, Julen Lopetegui, and as of now, they are headed by an interim coach in the person of Santiago Solari, a former player who coaches the B team Castilla.

Two things can happen to Real Madrid: they either come out of this better or they take a turn for the worse. At this point, this is their worst start since the 2001-2002 season. It would be such a shame for the club that won the Champions League for the past three years to not get back to their winning ways.

Bayern Munich have gone back to their winning ways

Over in the Bundesliga, Bayern seemed to be in trouble after starting the 2018-2019 seasons with four successive wins. They followed that up with a draw then two losses. This was a concern since Bayern is not used to such a dismal performance.

They are coming off a season where they performed badly, sacked their coach, replaced him with a familiar face, and then went on to win the German top flight.

This season, they have a new man in charge and everything looked bright. Then the three successive winless streak happened. A press conference was called but nothing much was said – they were going to dig themselves out of this mess.

And they did. With a win over Wolfsburg which was also followed by another win over Mainz. Next up for Bayern is a match against Freiburg then it's on to the Champions League where they sit second in their group, but tied with Ajax at seven points each.

Juventus roll on despite Ronaldo rape allegation

Cristiano Ronaldo has had a stellar career. He recently made a move from Real Madrid – his home for the past eight years – to Juventus. This presented another opportunity for the star forward to make history, this time with a new team.

Things were progressing smoothly. Juventus were winning. Then the allegations of rape against their star player – which took places in Las Vegas in 2009 – were brought up. Despite that, Ronaldo continued to play for club and they continued to win.

However, he hasn't suited up for country since the rape allegations came to light.

There was even a bit of nostalgia as Ronaldo returned “home” to Old Trafford (a former home of six years before he transferred to Madrid) where he played against Manchester United. Juventus won that match too.

The case against Ronaldo has been reopened and it remains to be seen what happens to the footballer.

Premier League top five are missing a usual member

Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United are the usual teams you see on the upper half of the Premier League table. This season, United are at eighth place, having only secured 17 points in 10 games.

To be fair, Tottenham has put in impressive performances the past seasons, and they do deserve their spot in the top five. It's just a question of whether or not United can unseat any of the clubs above it to make it into the top five by the end of the season.

The race to the finish looks to be an exciting one in the Premier League, with Manchester City and Liverpool sharing 26 points each.
