Start-up businesses in Worcestershire recently took part in an event to learn about successful entrepreneurs in the region and inspire their own business growth.   The ‘Imagine, Achieve, Succeed’ workshop took place on 12 December 2018 at Sixways Stadium in Worcester, and was designed to help start-up and early stage businesses explore the support available through the Enterprising Worcestershire programme.

The highlight of the day was the guest speaker slot filled by Nick Baxter, CEO of recruitment agency Baxter Williams, who shared his story from start up to success. Nick spoke about his business journey, which began with him working alone in his cellar and currently sees him employing nine people. Nick received support through the Enterprising Worcestershire programme to develop his business.

Councillor Ken Pollock, Cabinet Member for Economy and Infrastructure added:

"Nick's story is a great example for those people who are setting out in business. It's great to see businesses growing and succeeding with the support on offer from Enterprising Worcestershire. This is central to what we are setting out to achieve and the Council's commitment to promoting 'Open for Business' and enhancing the prosperity of the County.”

Through a series of practical bite-sized workshops, delegates also got a taste of the free support on offer through the Enterprising Worcestershire business growth programme. Workshops included an introduction to business planning, sales and marketing strategies and funding the dream.

Enterprising Worcestershire is an ERDF funded programme that provides expert advice, support and access to funding for businesses with the potential for growth. The programme supports start-up and early stage businesses through a combination of one-to-one support and workshops, covering topics from market research and business planning to social media and legal essentials. Eligible businesses may also be able to access funding through the programme to purchase new equipment or develop their online presence.

Start-ups and early stage businesses in the region who were not able to attend the event but would like to find out more about the support available can email Ellie Brown on ebrown4@worcestershire.gov.uk .
